A Closer Look at Our Research Practice

How Mira Solven, Jonas Merrow, and Anika Bellan turn technical questions and market assumptions into work founders can use.

A question before a conclusion

A VEYRION research project starts by defining the decision it should inform. The question may arise during technical diligence, in a founder conversation, or while comparing approaches to a new market. Mira Solven, who leads the practice, works with the team to identify what is already understood, what remains uncertain, and which observation would materially change the current view.

That framing keeps the scope useful. A broad topic such as protocol reliability can become an investigation of how one dependency behaves during a delay. A discussion of incentives can become a scenario about what a participant does when compensation changes. The resulting work has a specific reader and a reason to exist beyond adding another document to a shared folder.

Two complementary ways to inspect a system

Jonas Merrow examines protocols through their behavior. His work includes reading implementations, creating small simulations, and tracing the path from a local failure to a wider operational consequence. Reproducible examples make an argument easier for a founder or engineer to challenge. They also help the research team distinguish an observed result from an assumption embedded in the experimental setup.

Anika Bellan studies the participants around that implementation. She maps incentives, liquidity needs, and the choices available to different actors. A mechanism can behave as designed while producing an outcome its creators did not intend. Her scenario work asks whether a participant has a reason to follow the expected path, and who bears the consequences when that reason changes.

Review the uncertainty together

In a working review, Mira brings these perspectives into the same discussion. The team inspects where a technical condition meets an economic assumption and identifies the limits of the evidence. A useful finding may narrow an investment thesis, suggest a product experiment, or reveal a question that needs a specialist’s attention. A project can be valuable without resolving every uncertainty it encounters.

The final material is shaped for its intended use: a decision memo, a diagram, a reproducible test, or an essay that invites scrutiny. The practice developed alongside VEYRION’s growing research work in 2024 and continues to connect investing with practical company building. Its shared standard is clarity about the claim, its supporting reasoning, and the conditions under which the conclusion should be revisited.
